Wireless charging for electric cars: Porsche presents an innovative wireless charging system at the IAA 2025. Simply park, charge automatically – perfect for homes, hotels and road trips. Find out why this technology could be the future of e-mobility.

At the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich I met Mayk Wienkötter from Porsche AG – a real e-car adventurer. Just like me, he loves long road trips. One of his most legendary trips: from Germany to Istanbul, all-electric with the Porsche Taycan!

While Mayk sets off to travel across Europe to the gateway to the Orient, I myself am passionate about exploring the Balkans with my electric car. For me, this is not just a travel adventure, but also a statement: I want to defy prejudices – many people believe that traveling by electric car in these regions is impossible. And I want to show how well it works and how electric mobility can also be experienced away from the major European cities.

Revolutionary technology: Porsche Wireless Charging live at the trade fair

In between our travel anecdotes, Mayk showed me a Porsche innovation that immediately caught my attention: Porsche Wireless Charging. I was even able to experience the technology live at the trade fair – and it is so intuitive that I asked myself: Why hasn’t this been around for a long time?

Instead of plugging in a charging cable, you simply park the car over a base plate. The energy is transferred inductively, i.e. wirelessly – similar to charging a smartphone or an electric toothbrush. With up to 11 kW charging power, this is just as fast as classic AC charging.

How wireless charging works at Porsche

The system is cleverly thought out:

  • No wallbox required, just the base plate.
  • Simply park – the Cayenne Electric positions itself automatically and the charging process starts by itself.
  • If the plate detects an animal or an object in between, it is interrupted immediately – safety first.
  • Everything can be conveniently monitored via the My Porsche app.

Porsche has discovered that around 75 percent of charging takes place at home. This is precisely where wireless charging comes into its own: no tangled cables, no bending over, no fumbling – just park and charge.

Wireless charging: A dream for hotels and road trips

While experiencing the system at the IAA, I immediately had a thought: this technology would be ideal for hotels.
Imagine arriving exhausted in the evening after a long road trip. Instead of struggling with cables, blocked charging points or complicated apps, you simply park up – and while you sleep, your car charges automatically.

Advantages for hotels:

  • More comfort for guests – no cable clutter in the parking lot.
  • Space-saving and clean – no permanently installed charging stations blocking parking spaces.
  • Simple billing – the charging process can be charged directly to the room bill.
  • A real USP – hotels can clearly set themselves apart from the competition with this service.

This would be a dream, especially for accommodation along popular road trip routes:
Simply arrive, park, sleep – and continue your journey in the morning with a full battery.

Perfect for long distances: 400 kW charging power

Of course, ultra-fast DC charging remains crucial for frequent drivers like Mayk.
The new Cayenne Electric, which will be launched at the end of 2025, should even be able to draw up to 400 kW at fast-charging stations – perfect for long distances and road trips across Europe.

My conclusion: a milestone for electromobility

I’m incredibly excited to see how wireless charging will feel in everyday life.
For me, Porsche Wireless Charging is a real milestone on the way to e-mobility that works as naturally as Wi-Fi in a hotel room – both at home and on the road.

I will continue to explore the Balkans – with my electric car, for the love of traveling and as a clear statement against prejudice. And I’m already looking forward to the next long road trips by Mayk Wienkötter and Porsche!
