This road trip was special. Not only because we were traveling fully electrically, but because this time I was able to experience Bosnia-Herzegovina through the eyes of a guest. My companion was the outstanding photographer Halil Al-Zadjali from Oman. It was his second visit to the country – but he was seeing many of the places we visited for the first time.

With the Cupra Tavascan, we drove quietly and with concentration through the Bosnian winter. Less speed, more perception. And again and again the question: What does someone who knows this country see through the lens of an artist who barely knows this country?

Khalil Al Zadjali is Omani and a celebrated photographer in his home country. His impressive photographs of royal horses in particular have brought him international attention. For his visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina, he deliberately chose the winter season – he loves the cold, the silence and, above all, the snow.

However, he was denied one wish: there were plenty of icy temperatures, but hardly any snow. And yet the landscapes we visited together enchanted him. He captured these special, almost magical impressions with his lens.

Clear the ring for extraordinary images from one of the most beautiful – and certainly most fascinating – countries in Europe.

Umoljani – In the land of dragon legends

Our first stage took us over Mount Visočica to the village of Umoljani, where history, nature and everyday life are closely interwoven. From there on to Studeni Potok – the “Cold Creek“, a place full of legends and wintry clarity. This thread of the creek and its mystical legend about its origins also cast a spell over Khalil.

Vlašić – On the trail of the last Bosnian mountain horses

Horses were a must on this trip. That’s why we drove into the wilderness of Mount Vlašić above the historic central Bosnian town of Travnik. There we visited the stud farm of the last autochthonous Bosnian mountain horses. They were rescued by Azra Bekićtogether with her husband – out of conviction, with a lot of courage and against resistance. Bosnian Mountain Horses – a quiet place that tells more about responsibility than many words.

Stolac – Where the river Bregava is powerful in winter

One wish accompanied Halil throughout the trip: a waterfall.
The perfect time to travel to Herzegovina, where it is milder in December and the water flows powerfully through the landscape. In Stolac the Bregava showed its wild side – ideal conditions for drone shots. Halil’s pictures are spectacular and show places that even seemed new to me.

You think you know a country because you live there. And then you receive visitors – and see your own home through a different lens. It is an honor to be able to accompany such guests. Because through their gaze, you begin to perceive the familiar in a new way – and, very quietly, fall a little more in love with this country.

Thank you, Khalil!

Technology, design – and a real driving experience

A Cupra Tavascan feels new: very sporty at the start, yet at the same time confident and calm. With 250 kW (340 hp), all-wheel drive (4Drive) and 545 Nm, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 s, with a top speed of 180 km/h. The 77 kWh lithium-ion battery enables a WLTP range of up to 513 km, combined consumption is 17.1-18.5 kWh/100 km. DC charging up to 135 kW (10-80%) takes around 28 minutes.

The design is at least as impressive as the numbers. The interior is very different from other electric vehicles: a large touchscreen, clear interface and ambient lighting that creates an almost futuristic atmosphere in the evening – at times you feel like you’re in a spaceship. The interior and trunk are spacious without being bulky. On the outside, the lines and copper details make a confident statement.

I rode the Tavascan in winter – and that’s exactly what made the test so meaningful. In Bosnia-Herzegovina, the surfaces change quickly: asphalt, macadam, ice, mud. The drive modes were decisive. In off-road mode, the Tavascan proved to be particularly confident, for example on the ascent of the Vlašić: icy, grooved, steep – no problems, precise grip, full control. The suspension was also impressive: bumps were barely noticeably absorbed.

Wish? A higher charging capacity – complaining at a high level. The range is solid and suitable for everyday use on a winter road trip.
The bottom line is that the Cupra Tavascan is truly unique: for people who love adventure, appreciate innovation and futurism and consciously seek out eye-catching design.

The vehicle was provided by Porsche Sarajevo.
